The cast for [this] low budget film is fantastic, each actor seems to be really enjoying what they do and it really helps the viewer get into the film. Also the scenery is beautiful and a perfect setting for the events that are about to unfold. Dead in the Water is a fresh take on an old genre and one I really enjoyed. Fan's will not be disappointed!
They know damn well they're using "Horror 101" tactics, but they've managed to make something really interesting with it. In fact, they've done all the right things here. They took an incredibly unoriginal basic premise and just let it ride. Genuinely, if someone ever does a horror movie textbook, this will have to be part of the book.
By virtue of its quality acting, assured direction and a keen sense of self-awareness Dead in the Water over-reaches expectations and turns out to be a surprisingly effective and, against the odds, original horror film.
If you are expecting a night in with a film that is going to have you glued to your couch in fear this is not it. However, if you are seeking an escape from the strenuous work day- you will find that here. This is one of the many zombie inspired films that has made a difference in my viewing world.
A rather unsettling and intriguing piece of indie horror. Buhmann manages to build tension with enough success to create a competent horror film for anyone seeking a unique entry into the zombie sub-genre, and the jolting surprise ending will really leave audiences talking.
Dead in the Water is a good time, if you're looking for a self-aware horror flick that knows what movies it's shaped by. It's bloody, it's well acted... I’d recommend you pick up Dead in the Water, it's a solid choice.
I really liked where this film took me, and to my surprise, it wasn’t at all where I expected to go. Great locales, solid acting, and an engaging script all come together to deliver a solid film that adds as much in new material, as it still pays homage to the source material from which it borrows.
All of [Buhmann’s] decisions are spot on, from the reliance on a small cast of characters, the use of few settings, to the simplicity of the story, Buhmann never oversteps the bounds of the budget.
The zombie FX are very convincing, and Fred Miller's [cinematography] lends the film a more polished look than we usually see in these types of flicks - and that's where the real payoff is.
Dead in the Water is an encouraging debut. These guys have talent.
